What a fun advent calendar. The needle-felted designs are adorable.The kit comes with everything you need to do the projects making it very beginner friendly. The necessary tools are in window 1, labeled "basic tools". Windows 2 to 8 contain the roving to do to the projects. For example, on day 2 you get the basic unbleached roving and then on day 3, you get the detail colors.The calendar comes with an instruction booklet full of photos as well as written instructions. There are also video tutorials you can access via a QR code. Having some experience with needle felting, I will say the tools are cheaply made but they do serve their function and you can upgrade if you find you like the hobby. I do like that the base piece you felt into to protect your surface is made of dense felted wool rather than the thick foam I usually see sold for this purpose. If you make all the piece you get an adorable little Halloween scene.

The product description bills this as beginner-friendly. It's not. Yes, all the bits and bobs you'd need to get started are technically here. However, the instructions on their own are close to useless, leaving you with videos that are only marginally more helpful. Not everyone learns or works the same way, and for me, a video is a good supplement to rather than a substitute for written instructions. If you're more experienced, this isn't as much of an issue, but if you're shopping for a first-timer, I wouldn't recommend this set for that reason.

First of all, I think this kit is a super cute idea. I love the concept of a mystery box, especially one that helps break down needle felting into easily digestible chunks that together form a somewhat complex project, especially for a beginner. They provide all the tools you need to complete the project, including the needle felting basics which are found in compartment 1.Where this kit loses me is heavy reliance on video instruction. The printed instructions are adequate IF you have needle felted before. If you haven’t, be prepared to do some research on your own or watch their videos. May I say, that I HATE watching instructional videos. I just want to get to the meat of the project without listening to a whole bunch of other crap and for me, videos are a huge time waster. In addition, I’m not always where I have access to the internet or a quiet place to watch, and so the project stops until I can get access again. I would have rather they put more effort into a comprehensive booklet that I can take with me anywhere or refer to any time.I also wish they would PROOFREAD or have a native English speaker write their copy. On the box is this strange sentence: “The pressure relief starts from wool poking to get emotioanl (SP) release”. It sounds like a steam valve (!) is going to blow and is not at all the relaxation-providing statement that I’m sure they intended to make. I also chuckle every time I see the term “warm reminder” when it should be “hot tip” or just “Note:” or “Tip:”. On the back of the instruction guide it says “Horror Night Party”… kind of a misnomer for something that is supposed to make you relaxed and happy!The kit is also a bit expensive. But, it is very cutely designed and you are making a complex project, so I can somewhat see this, although the cost may turn off some customers.Minor quibbles, though. I’ve needle felted before so the pros definitely outweigh the cons and overall, this is a super cute kit and would make an excellent gift for that crafty person in your life. Love it.

I love the presentation of this kit - one large box with 8 perforated boxes to be popped open when you are ready to do that figure, with one box - the first box- the tools you'll need to get started. There is an instruction manual with minimum instructions if you are an experienced needle felter but there is also a QR code with a link to the video showing you the whole process. Once all of the projects have been complete, you put them all together for a cute little spooky scene. It's a great introduction to needle felting with everything you need to get started - from the tools to the instructions to the wool.

Let me get this started by saying that I've enjoyed this kit a great deal. It's the first time I've done anything like this so I knew that there was going to be a bit of a learning curve, which I was expecting.One thing that I really, really hate is when you are REQUIRED TO WATCH VIDEOS. I don't want to have to watch a video to learn how to do something when there are instructions.Not only is there required video watching, but some of the items didn't match what the instructions showed. I didn't get both of the eyes for the little witch so I had to use some of the felt to construct her eyes and that was something I found incredibly annoying.In all if you're a beginner like me, this kit may or may not be good for you. It depends on if you want to have somewhat of a challenge -- so if you want to have a nice, simple felting experience this won't be a calming time. It's definitely more of a difficult kit for beginners for sure.
